Have you ever visited a dermatologist? Well you may want to set up an appointment! Your skin communicates a lot of what is going in your body, I mean it is the largest organ that you have, and can see! But until you can get that appointment be on the lookout for any of these 8 concerning signs:
1. Hyperpigmentation and Discoloration
Think you just have been exposed to too much sun, or have sun burn? Think again, you may need to take a second look at your skin. If the redness is particularly noticeable around your neck, armpit, or groin it could be a sign of the onset of diabetes.
2. Grayish Skin
According to Dr. Kim Laudati, “gray skin can be an indicator of many different health issues- impending heart attack, emphysema, pulmonary tuberculosis, pneumonia, and cancer just to name a few.”
3. Blue Shins or Gums
If your gums or shins turn a bluish color, this is a sure sign you are having a negative reaction to a medication. If you just look bluish gray all over (not in the smurf kind of way), you should seek out medical assistance, as this is a sign that you have a chronic ingestion of lead.
4. Dry Skin or Nails
Incredibly dry skin, hair, and nails is a huge indicator for a potential thyroid disorder. “Skin should be free of rashes, swelling, and scaling. Other issues could be merely a lack of vitamin A, fatty acids, and zinc”, according to Dr. Tori Holthaus.
5. Eye Bags and Puffiness
If you have a high sodium concentrated diet it promotes water retention in your body. There are only so many places that this water can go. The under-eye area is one of the places it gets stored. According to celebrity doctor, Roshini Raj, M.D., “chronic allergies could also be the issue. Sensitive skin under the eyes can become inflamed due to dilation of blood vessels that leak, creating the puffy dark purple hued skin.”
6. Yellow Eyes
According to Soheil Simzar, M.D. “Eyes that have a tint of yellow in the could be indication of condition called scleral icterus”. This is essentially a sign of liver disfunction that shouldn’t go unattended to for very long!
7. Excess Facial Hair
This can be a major issue for a women – unwanted hair- it’s such a burden right? Well, your body may be trying to tell you that you have polycystic ovary syndrome. This is a hormone imbalance where male hormone levels are overly elevated. Pay attention to this especially if you are getting hair along the jawline, chin, and upper lip.
8. Cracked Lips
Does it seem like no matter how much chap stick and vaseline you put on your lips they are still dry? You may have a vitamin B deficiency. Try adding foods with niacin, riboflavin, and vitamin b6 back into your diet. Tuna, chickpeas, and spinach are all great options!
