Review

I’d been eyeing portable steam saunas, off and on, for the past few years. At such time, I had no urgent need to purchase one. My gym membership included access to a sauna, steam room and other gym amenities that I used regularly.  Then, fast forward to 2020 as an unexpected pandemic hit the world by storm, resulting in lockdowns and closures of services deemed non-essential, including one of my all-time favorites—the gym. These sudden changes also prompted unexpected lifestyle adjustments.

One of the many adjustments I had to make was figuring out what to do about my highly coveted gym time. Exercising at the gym had become a weekly sought after retreat for me. And now, gym time for many fitness enthusiast was abruptly halted due to worldwide closures. So, I found myself facing two options: I could fall into slump, stuff my face with food and eat my newly introduced life and workout woes away OR I could make my best effort forth this trying situation. And make purposeful strides towards becoming  stronger, wiser, fitter and hopefully slimmer than I was before this world disaster started; I opted for the latter.

My first wellness task was figuring out how I could safely and effectively carry out a semi-normal workout regimen. I decided in order to do this it would be helpful to transform my garage a.k.a ‘storage shamble’ into a clean and functional home garage gym. Stay tuned for a “How to Create a Home Gym” in Less Than a Week post coming soon. The second task was finding feasible fill in for my sauna and steam room sessions. This left me searching for that portable steam sauna I’d been intrigued by so many years before.

At the onset, I didn’t have any major expectations of the portable steam sauna. I did my research, read some reviews and opted for the Durasage Portable Steam Sauna. The selling points were that it had great reviews and it was reasonably priced.  Check our myPortable Steam Sauna Review video to see more details.

Once I narrowed down my selection, I quickly ordered it. Based on limited fitness and wellness stock at the time, it became increasingly apparent that portable saunas and gym equipment were in demand. It was apparent I wasn’t the only one in pursuit of some sense of fitness and wellness normalcy.

It only took one week for my steamy new friend to arrive; Amazon Prime rarely to never lets this consumer down. I was eager to pry open my new neatly packaged goody.

For starters, the Durasage Portable Steam Sauna was relatively easy to put together. The directions were clear and reader-friendly. It came equipped with everything it needed to function with the exception of filtered water the contents included the following: a steam generator, quilted frame cover, frame parts, and a portable athletic chair. At first glance,  I wasn’t sure how I felt about this item. For some reason, I kept thinking about the traditional steam and sauna set up and how this greatly differed in appearance from it. But to my surprise, this portable steam sauna exceeded my expectations, so much so, I looked forward to hopping in, nightly, again and again.  And although it looked nothing like the traditional sauna, it still felt equally as great! In fact, I even found myself liking it a tad bit more. The only aspects I could possibly attribute that to the welcomed  convenience and easy accessibility it provided. It felt great to have that “post-workout relaxing feeling” back. There’s nothing like having a good workout and making a quick beeline to your portable sauna. The only additional item required is the recommended filtered water needed to produce steam via steam generator.  Once you add water, and attach steam pipe to unit, it takes about 15-25 minutes for the steam to circulate.

The provided chair is also quite comfortable. As a bonus, it was nice having the chance to put my facial mask to good use. It left my looking noticeably radiant and feeling soft and supple.

Overall, I’m very pleased with this product. There were only a couple of minor hiccups. As mentioned, the construction of the product was relatively simple, however, the exception was an oddly placed bar that made it nearly impossible for manage getting in the sauna.

The good news is the bar was easy to remove and did not obstruct the design and functionality of the sauna. Once this specific part was removed, I was able to enter and exit the unit with ease.  Additionally, I found it helpful to add a towel at the floor of unit and place one on the chair. This adjustment added a personal touch and definitely make it a little more cozy for my liking. This addition is not a must-have. More so, it was a matter of preference.  In addition, the towel placement on the chair proved useful in preventing the heat from steam apparatus from penetrating through the back of chair and burning my bottom.

Besides having to make minor tweaks, overall, I’m wildly pleased. That said, if you’re in the market for a compact, convenient, and economical steam sauna option, I highly recommend you consider giving this beauty a try.
