Prevention Magazine R3 Summit Highlights

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the 2nd annual Prevention R3 Summit.  It was a remarkable experience. Initially, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect for my first time attending this special event. Needless to say, R3 Summit exceeded my expectations.

The R3 Summit festivities kicked off a few weeks before the actual event with a special pre-dinner for the media  at Eden East in Austin. I couldn’t ask for a more gorgeous Austin evening, topped off with great company, wonderful food and beautiful scenery.  The delightful pre-dinner gave me my first taste of what to expect in the weeks to come.  I was thoroughly excited about part two.

Weekend events launched on Friday evening with the viewing of Resistance, a prolific and insightful documentary by Applegate.   A  revealing journey of how one of the greatest health achievements transitioned to the greatest threats humanity has ever faced.  A startling, yet insightful look at antibiotics. In addition, it provided an in depth look into this phenomenon through personal stories and commentary from the world’s leading experts.  I must say, my overall perspective on antibiotics was significantly impacted by watching this thought provoking film and taking notes from the intriguing post panel discussion.

Refresh, revive and  reinvent- the mantra behind Prevention Magazine’s R3 Prevention Summit, and that’s exactly what I experienced. There was something fascinating taking place at every corner. Participants could attend sessions about everything from eating clean, supplements, aging gracefully, breakthrough thinking and how the media influences our health. Prevention contributors, national health and wellness experts and local chefs  lead programming.  Guest speakers included: Actresss, Andie McDowell; Dietitian, Qualitarian, Author, Consultant, Ashley Koff, RD;Actress, activist and New York Times Bestselling author Annabelle Gurwitch;Mallika Chopra is a mom, media entrepreneur, published author;
Owner and Executive Chef, Hillside Farmacy, Eden East and  Homegrown Revival,Sonya Coté; Writer and world renowned expert in health and weight loss, Darya Rose to name a few of the amazing panel of speakers. Click here to view line up of speakers.

There were also book signings, healthy cooking demonstrations, neck massages, beauty  and bath bars and henna paintings, which all played a role in the impressive lineup. To be honest, I’m already looking forward to next year’s event. If you missed this year’s fitness and wellness festivities, no worries, you can plan ahead for next year’s event too!
