It‘s not a secret that Summer is tough on our hair. Because of an intense heat and humidity, hair care can become a real challenge. However, these easy tips will help you get your hair care routine back on track and ready for the hot and sunny Summer months.
1. Use A Clarifying Shampoo
Intense heat can make our sebaceous glands become overactive, so this is the reason why Summer is the time when most of us suffer from excessive oil production in the scalp. Not only a scalp can feel greasier than usual, but an excess of dirt and oil can lead to irritation and inflamation. An occasional use (once or twice a week) of a clarifying shampoo will help you to remove dirt, freshen up the scalp and make your hair more voluminous.
2. Fight Frizz
Direct sun and humidity tend to increase dryness and breakage of hair ends. If looking like a Medusa is not your ideal Summer look, prevent frizz by adding more hydrating natural treatments to your usual hair care routine. It can be hair masks or hair oils, both work great. Look for products containing Argan oil. Argan is one of the most beneficial oils and it will restore hair moisture, treat split ends and make your hair smoother and frizz-free.
3. Detangle Your Locks
Sometimes it’s not enough to use a simple wash–out conditioner for a brush to make it through your dry and knotty hair. Good news there are a lot of leave–in treatments to make it easier. A leave–in detangler or serum is perfect for moisturizing your hair ends and making them smooth and more manageable.
4. Make The Look Last
If you’re tired of rinsing your hair twice a day, try a dry shampoo. It’s a great product for making your hair clean, fresh and voluminous in–between washes. Look for dry shampoos made with natural ingredients like cornstarch. Also, it’s simple to do it yourself.
How to: for light hair – mix ¼ cup of cornstarch or arrowroot powder with a few drops of your favorite essential oil (optional). For dark hair – mix ¼ cup of cornstarch or arrowroot powder with 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cacao powder, add a few drops of essential oil (optional). Apply DIY dry shampoo to the roots and oily parts of your hair, comb through and style as usual.
5. Wear A Hat
Your hair needs protection from the harsh sun‘s rays as much as your skin, so consider adding a stylish hat to your Summer outfit. Wearing a hat when staying in the sun, will not only protect your hair and keep the hair color from fading faster, but also will help you to avoid sunstroke.
6. No Fuss Styling
There’s no chance your hair will win a battle against the humidity, so let it go. Put your hair straightener and that bottle of hairspray out of sight for now and use a sea salt spray to create some beautiful beachy waves – these just never go out of style! A messy (make it braided!) top bun is another great Summer hair style idea. It’s easy to create and keeps hair simple, but absolutely gorgeous.
7. Eat Healthy
No hair care treatments can make such an impact on your hair like eating healthy food. Make sure your diet includes foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids: chia seeds, flaxseed oil and seeds or salmon and foods rich in biotin (vitamin B7): avocados, almonds, mushrooms, berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries) or sunflower seeds.
