I saw the Set Starter for the first time in the April ’13 issue of Shape magazine. It definitely sparked my curiosity and interest. I couldn’t wait to get my very own and see how this gadget worked. I was like a kid awaiting her new toy. I was admittedly surprised that it was so easy to use. Often, these small technological fitness devices are deceiving because they appear uncomplicated, but come with a dictionary size booklet of not- so- easy to read instructions. That was not the case with this unique stopwatch. It was compact, user-friendly and extremely convenient. I quickly found that it was ideal for its intended purpose which was to provide non-visual cues like beeps and vibrations to let me know when I needed to start and stop my intervals or rest periods during my circuit training.
Q: What is interval training?
A: According to Wikipedia, interval training is a type of discontinuous physical training that involves a series of low- to high-intensity exercise workouts interspersed with rest or relief periods. The high-intensity periods are typically at or close to anaerobic exercise, while the recovery periods may involve either complete rest or activity of lower intensity.
Interval training can be described as short periods of work followed by rest. The main aim is to improve speed and cardiovascular fitness.
Interval training can refer to organization of any cardiovascular workout (e.g., cycling, running, rowing, etc), and is prominent in training routines for many sports. It is a technique particularly employed by runners, but athletes from several backgrounds have been known to use this type of training.
Q: Is interval training effective?
A: Interval training has been proven to enhance a person’s threshold. It has also been highly effective at inducing fat loss because it boost metabolism with high intensity intervals.
